Social Studies

Social Studies is integrated through the instruction of ELA during whole group instruction. During whole group instruction, teachers do interactive read alouds to introduce topics and allow class discussion to clarify misconceptions and ensure understanding. Students are taught about these social studies topics through the discussions.

The following Social Studies components are taught at CPS:

  • Understand how culture, values, and beliefs shape people, places, and environments

  • Understand how people engage with and participate in the community

  • Understand how the role of basic economic concepts in decisions people make

  • Apply geographic representations, tools, and terms to describe surroundings

  • Understand interactions between humans and the environment in different places and regions around the world

  • Understand how people and events have changed society over time.
